Description

This Best Layered Black Forest Trifle is the kind of dessert that makes everyone pause after the first bite. It is rich, creamy, chocolatey, and packed with juicy cherries, making it a perfect easy recipe for holidays, dinner parties, dessert cravings, and special food ideas when you want something impressive without complicated steps. Whether you need a make-ahead dessert, easy entertaining idea, or a beautiful sweet treat to share, this layered trifle brings together moist chocolate cake, fluffy whipped cream, and luscious cherry filling in the most irresistible way.

Ingredients

12 cups chocolate cake, cut into cubes

1 can cherry pie filling, 21 ounces

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup dark chocolate, shaved

2 cups brownie pieces

1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

10 whole sweet cherries, for garnish

Instructions

1. Cut the chocolate cake into bite-sized cubes and set aside.

2. If using brownies, cut them into small chunks for layering.

3. In a large chilled bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft to medium peaks form.

4. Add a layer of chocolate cake cubes to the bottom of a trifle bowl or large glass serving dish.

5. Spoon a layer of cherry pie filling over the cake.

6. Spread a thick layer of whipped cream over the cherries.

7. Sprinkle in some brownie pieces, shaved dark chocolate, and chopped walnuts.

8. Repeat the layers until the bowl is filled, ending with whipped cream on top.

9. Garnish with extra shaved chocolate, walnuts, and whole sweet cherries.

10. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving so the layers can settle and the flavors blend beautifully.

Notes

Be careful not to overwhip the cream, because once it turns too stiff or grainy, the trifle loses that soft and silky texture that makes each layer so beautiful.
