Description

Box Mix Turtle Cake is my go-to easy dessert when I want something rich, gooey, and impressive without making a cake completely from scratch. This chocolate caramel pecan cake is perfect for potlucks, holiday gatherings, birthday treats, and everyday baking when I need quick dessert ideas, easy recipe inspiration, and crowd-pleasing food ideas that taste homemade.

Ingredients

1 box chocolate cake mix

3 large eggs

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 cup water

14 ounces sweetened condensed milk

1 cup caramel sauce

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup heavy cream

3/4 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water until smooth.

3. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 28 to 32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

4. Remove the cake from the oven and immediately poke holes all over the top using the handle of a wooden spoon or a thick skewer.

5. Slowly pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the warm cake.

6. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top, letting it sink into the holes.

7. Place the chocolate chips in a heat-safe bowl. Heat the heavy cream until hot, then pour it over the chocolate chips. Let it sit for 1 minute, then stir until smooth.

8. Spread the chocolate mixture over the cake.

9. Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top.

10. Cool completely, then chill for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.

Notes

Do not skip poking the cake while it is still warm, because that is what helps the sweetened condensed milk and caramel soak in properly and gives the cake its signature gooey texture.
