Brown Butter Maple Donut Bars are a cozy, easy recipe that tastes like a bakery-style treat made right at home. These soft baked donut bars are filled with rich brown butter flavor and sweet maple goodness, making them perfect for a quick breakfast, sweet brunch, easy dessert, or anytime snack when you need comforting food ideas.

Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

3/4 cup whole milk

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

2 to 3 tablespoons milk

1/4 cup chopped nuts

2 tablespoons coarse sugar

Instructions

1. Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until golden and nutty, then let it cool slightly.

2. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a donut bar pan or an 8-inch square baking pan.

3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

4. In a large bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and browned butter.

5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir just until combined.

6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.

7. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the top springs back lightly and a toothpick comes out clean.

8. Let the bars cool for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack.

9. Whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk until smooth to make the glaze.

10. Drizzle the glaze over the bars and finish with chopped nuts and coarse sugar.

11. Let the glaze set before slicing and serving.

Notes

Do not overmix the batter once the flour is added, or the donut bars can turn dense instead of soft and tender.
