Ingredients

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

4 teaspoons baking powder

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 cups buttermilk

½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick), melted

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

2. Pour melted butter into an 8×8-inch (or similar size) baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.

3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.

4. Add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. The dough will be sticky—do not overmix.

5. Transfer the biscuit dough into the buttered baking dish. Use a spatula or your hands to gently spread the dough evenly to the edges.

6. Using a sharp knife, score the dough into 9 squares to make serving easy after baking.

7. Bake for 22–25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are crisp.

8. Let cool for a few minutes, then cut and serve warm.

Notes

For the softest, fluffiest biscuits, avoid overmixing your dough.

You can add up to 1 cup of shredded cheddar or herbs for extra flavor.

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer storage.
