Ingredients
4 large sweet potatoes
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
1/4 cup water
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Peel the sweet potatoes and slice into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, vanilla extract (if using), and water until smooth and bubbling.
4. Arrange the sweet potato slices in a large baking dish.
5. Pour the glaze over the sweet potatoes, tossing gently to coat all pieces.
6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
7. Remove foil, gently stir or flip the sweet potatoes, and bake uncovered for an additional 25–30 minutes, until the glaze is thick and potatoes are tender and glossy.
8. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Cut sweet potatoes in even rounds for the best texture and even cooking.
Stirring halfway through baking ensures every slice is coated in the glaze.
For a festive touch, add marshmallows during the last 10 minutes of baking or sprinkle with toasted pecans before serving.
