This Chinese Beef and Broccoli is a quick dinner packed with tender beef, crisp broccoli, and a rich savory sauce that tastes better than takeout. It is an easy recipe for busy weeknights, simple dinner ideas, and comforting food ideas when you want a homemade meal fast.
Ingredients
1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
4 cups broccoli florets
2 tbsp vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup beef broth
3 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp sesame oil
2 green onions, sliced
1 tsp sesame seeds
3 cups cooked jasmine rice
Instructions
1. Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain and set it aside.
2. In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, cornstarch, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil until smooth.
3. Steam or blanch the broccoli for 2 to 3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender, then drain.
4. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
5. Cook half of the beef for 1 to 2 minutes per side, then remove it from the pan. Repeat with the remaining oil and beef.
6. Return all of the beef to the skillet and add the broccoli.
7. Pour the sauce into the pan and stir for 2 to 3 minutes until it thickens and coats everything well.
8. Top with green onions and sesame seeds, then serve hot over jasmine rice.
Notes
Do not overcrowd the pan when cooking the beef, or it will steam instead of sear and turn less tender.
