Ingredients

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

2 ½ teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs, room temperature

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 cup whole milk, room temperature

1 ½ cups caramel sauce (divided; 1 cup for buttercream, ½ cup for drizzle)

4 cups powdered sugar (for buttercream)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.

5. Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with milk, mixing until just combined.

6. Divide batter evenly among the pans and smooth the tops.

7. Bake for 22-26 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool cakes in pans 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

8. For the caramel buttercream: Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then 1 cup caramel sauce and a pinch of salt. Beat until light and fluffy.

9. Level cake layers if needed. Place one layer on a plate, spread with buttercream. Repeat with remaining layers.

10. Frost the top and sides with buttercream. Chill cake for 20 minutes.

11. Warm remaining ½ cup caramel sauce until just pourable. Drizzle over cake edges and top.

12. Pipe extra buttercream on top for decoration if desired. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

Make sure cake layers are completely cool before assembling to prevent the buttercream from melting.

Use high-quality caramel sauce for the richest flavor and best drip effect.

For clean slices, chill the cake for 20-30 minutes before cutting with a sharp, hot knife.
