It is an easy recipe for busy weeknights, great for dinner ideas, meatless meals, and food ideas when you want a healthy snack-style bite served as a satisfying main dish over rice.
Ingredients
14 ounces extra-firm tofu
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons neutral oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup honey
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 green onions, sliced
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
3 cups cooked rice
Instructions
1. Press the tofu for 20 to 30 minutes, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
2. Place the tofu in a bowl and toss it with cornstarch, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
3. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
4. Add the tofu in a single layer and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, turning as needed, until all sides are golden and crispy.
5. In a small bowl, whisk together the garlic, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
6. Reduce the heat slightly and pour the sauce into the skillet with the crispy tofu.
7. Toss gently for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu.
8. Remove from the heat and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
9. Serve hot over cooked rice.
Notes
Do not skip pressing the tofu, because too much moisture will keep it from getting properly crispy in the pan.
