Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (cut into cubes)
1/2 cup eggnog (well-chilled)
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons eggnog
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
3. Add the cold cubed butter. Cut in with a pastry cutter or your fingers until mixture forms coarse crumbs with some pea-sized butter pieces.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup eggnog, egg, and vanilla extract.
5. Pour wet ingredients over dry and stir gently with a fork until just combined—do not overmix.
6. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat into an 8-inch disc, about 1 inch thick. Cut into 8 wedges.
7. Arrange scones on the baking sheet, spacing apart.
8. Bake for 14–17 minutes or until golden at the edges and set in the center. Let cool slightly.
9. Mix powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons eggnog, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract to make a thick glaze. Drizzle over warm scones and serve.
Notes
For the fluffiest texture, keep all ingredients cold and avoid overworking the dough.
Swap nutmeg for cinnamon or allspice for a twist.
Scones are best fresh but can be stored airtight for 2 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
