Description
This Halloween Bloody Red Velvet Popcorn is a quick breakfast-inspired party snack turned spooky dessert idea that looks dramatic and tastes sweet, crunchy, and festive. It is an easy recipe for Halloween food ideas, movie night treats, dessert table snacks, and fun party bites when you want colorful food ideas without a lot of work.
Ingredients
8 cups popped popcorn
12 ounces white candy melts
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons red gel food coloring
2 tablespoons Halloween sprinkles
Instructions
1. Line a large baking sheet or counter tray with parchment paper and place the popped popcorn in a very large bowl, removing any unpopped kernels.
2. Add the candy melts to a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 20-second intervals, stirring between each round, until fully melted and smooth.
3. Stir the cocoa powder, vanilla extract, salt, and red gel food coloring into the melted candy until the mixture is glossy and evenly colored.
4. Drizzle the red velvet coating over the popcorn a little at a time, gently tossing after each addition so the popcorn gets evenly coated without crushing it.
5. Spread the coated popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet and immediately scatter the Halloween sprinkles over the top.
6. Let the popcorn sit at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the coating is set.
7. Break into clusters and serve right away, or store in an airtight container.
Notes
Do not pour the coating all at once, or the popcorn can clump too heavily in one spot and lose that light crunchy texture.
