Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

3 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For Cookie Swirl:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Pinch salt

Orange gel food coloring

1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)

Topping:

1/2 cup assorted Halloween sprinkles and candies

Instructions

1. Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. For brownies: Melt 1 cup butter. Whisk in 1 cup granulated sugar and 1 cup brown sugar. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla. Sift in cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in chocolate chips.

3. For cookie swirl: Cream 1/2 cup softened butter with 1/2 cup sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Mix in flour, baking powder, salt, orange coloring, and white chocolate chips if using.

4. Spread most brownie batter in pan. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough on top. Swirl gently with a knife. Add reserved brownie batter over exposed cookie dough and gently spread. Top with sprinkles/candies.

5. Bake 33–38 minutes, until toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool completely before cutting into 16 brownies.

Notes

For extra-festive color, use gel food coloring for the brightest orange swirl.

Chill brownies before slicing for extra-clean cuts.

Brownies keep well for up to 5 days at room temp, or freeze for up to 2 months.
