Description
Soft, warm, and flexible, these homemade flour tortillas are the kind of easy recipe I love keeping on repeat for quick breakfast wraps, easy dinner ideas, healthy snack options, and simple food ideas throughout the week. Made with pantry staples and cooked in a hot skillet, they turn out tender and flavorful, perfect for tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and homemade wrap recipes.
Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 cup warm water
Instructions
1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
2. Add the vegetable oil and mix until the flour looks evenly coated and slightly crumbly.
3. Pour in the warm water and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 3 to 5 minutes until smooth.
5. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape them into balls.
6. Cover the dough balls with a clean towel and let them rest for 20 to 30 minutes.
7. Roll each ball into a thin circle on a lightly floured surface.
8. Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
9. Cook each tortilla for 30 to 45 seconds on the first side until bubbles form.
10. Flip and cook the second side for 20 to 30 seconds until light golden spots appear.
11. Stack the cooked tortillas in a clean towel to keep them soft and warm.
12. Serve right away or store once cooled.
Notes
Do not overcook the tortillas or they will lose that soft, foldable texture.
