Ingredients

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons smooth peanut butter or white miso paste

1 tablespoon molasses or dark brown sugar

2 teaspoons rice vinegar

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder

1 teaspoon sriracha or hot sauce (optional)

2 teaspoons sesame oil

Instructions

1. Combine soy sauce and peanut butter or miso paste in a bowl; whisk until smooth.

2. Add molasses or brown sugar and mix until fully incorporated.

3. Stir in rice vinegar and minced garlic, blending well.

4. Sprinkle in Chinese five spice powder and sriracha or hot sauce if desired.

5. Drizzle in sesame oil and whisk everything together until the sauce is thick, glossy, and smooth.

6. Taste and adjust sweetness, salt, or spice as preferred.

7. Store in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to three weeks; stir before each use.

Notes

For a nut-free version, use white miso paste instead of peanut butter.

Adjust sweetness and saltiness to taste—add more molasses for extra sweetness, or more soy sauce for saltiness.

Add extra sriracha or hot sauce for a spicy kick, or leave it out for a milder sauce.
