  • Author: Rosa Martinez
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Description

This irresistible easy baked ziti recipe is the kind of quick dinner that always saves me when I need comforting, family-friendly food ideas without a lot of stress. It is packed with tender pasta, rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and plenty of melted cheese, making it one of my favorite easy dinner ideas for busy weeknights, cozy weekends, and make-ahead meals.

Ingredients

12 ounces ziti pasta

1 pound ground beef

1 small yellow onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

24 ounces marinara sauce

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

15 ounces ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided

1 large egg

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the ziti until just al dente. Drain and set aside.

3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onion is soft.

4. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds, then stir in the marinara sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.

5. In a medium bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese, and parsley.

6. Toss the cooked ziti with most of the meat sauce, reserving about 1 cup of sauce for the top.

7. Spread half of the pasta mixture into the prepared baking dish.

8. Spoon the ricotta mixture evenly over the pasta.

9. Add the remaining pasta mixture on top and spread the reserved sauce over it.

10. Sprinkle with the remaining 1 cup mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese.

11. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until hot and bubbly and the cheese is melted and lightly golden.

12. Let the baked ziti rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Do not overcook the pasta before baking, or the finished baked ziti can turn too soft instead of holding its shape beautifully.
