Ingredients
8 cups cubed day-old bread
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups diced celery
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
2 cups low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 10–15 minutes, stirring once, until dry and golden. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add celery and onion; cook for 7–8 minutes until soft and fragrant.
4. Stir in parsley, sage, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper; cook for 1 minute longer.
5. Add the sautéed veggies and herbs to the toasted bread cubes. Gently toss to combine.
6. Gradually pour in broth while stirring until the mixture is evenly moistened but not soggy.
7. Transfer to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
8. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, until the top is crisp and golden.
9. Let cool slightly, then serve hot.
Notes
Use day-old or toasted bread for the best texture—fresh bread may get too soggy.
For more flavor, add cooked sausage, chopped apples, or toasted nuts before baking.
To prep ahead, assemble the stuffing a day in advance and bake just before serving.
