Description

Looking for a quick dessert, a sweet snack, or an easy recipe to impress your guests? Old-Fashioned Butter Mints are the perfect melt-in-your-mouth treat! These creamy, pastel candies are ideal for holiday parties, wedding favors, baby showers, or simply as an after-dinner delight. Their simple ingredients and no-bake process make them a favorite for easy dessert ideas and family-friendly food projects. This recipe is gluten-free, with classic minty flavor, and customizable colors—perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons heavy cream

1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract

1/8 teaspoon salt

Food coloring, optional

Instructions

1. Cream the butter in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.

2. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition, until a soft dough forms.

3. Stir in heavy cream, peppermint extract, and salt until fully incorporated and smooth.

4. Divide the dough and knead in food coloring, if desired, until color is evenly distributed.

5. Roll dough into small ropes on a surface dusted with powdered sugar, then cut into bite-sized pieces.

6. Place the mints on a parchment-lined tray and let air dry for at least 12 hours, until firm.

7. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

Use real unsalted butter for the creamiest texture—margarine will not yield the same result.

To prevent sticking, dust your hands and work surface lightly with powdered sugar while shaping.

For a stronger mint flavor, add a drop or two more peppermint extract, but don’t overdo it as the flavor intensifies as the mints dry.
