Soft, fluffy, and golden, this Simply Sandwich Bread is your go-to for quick breakfast, easy lunch sandwiches, or creative dinner ideas. It’s an easy recipe perfect for beginners or seasoned bakers, with simple ingredients and reliable results. Great for toast, grilled cheese, or snacking, this bread has that homemade taste that store-bought just can’t beat. Whether you’re looking for healthy snack alternatives or versatile food ideas, this loaf is always a hit.

Ingredients

1 1/3 cups warm water

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

olive oil for greasing bowl

1 egg

1 tablespoon water

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle in the yeast and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until foamy.

2. Stir in melted butter and salt, then gradually add the flour, one cup at a time. Mix until a dough begins to form.

3. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If it’s sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time.

4. Grease a large bowl with olive oil and place the dough inside. Cover with a damp towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

5. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.

6. Cover the loaf with a towel and let rise again for about 30–40 minutes, until the dough has risen about 1 inch above the pan.

7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the top with egg wash (1 egg + 1 tablespoon water).

8. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Use bread flour for a chewier, more structured loaf.

For a dairy-free version, substitute the butter with olive oil.

Always allow the bread to cool before slicing to avoid a gummy texture.
