Description
This Spicy Bang Bang Chicken Sandwich is a crispy, saucy, flavor-packed easy recipe that turns any lunch or easy dinner into something special. With crunchy fried chicken, creamy spicy bang bang sauce, fresh slaw, and soft toasted buns, it is one of my favorite food ideas for quick dinner nights, weekend lunch cravings, and crowd-pleasing dinner ideas.
Ingredients
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons hot sauce
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 large egg
oil for frying
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup sweet chili sauce
2 tablespoons sriracha
1 tablespoon honey
2 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup shredded carrots
2 green onions, sliced
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
4 sandwich buns
Instructions
1. Pound or slice the chicken breasts to an even thickness. In a bowl, combine the chicken, buttermilk, and hot sauce, then marinate for at least 30 minutes.
2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. In a separate bowl, beat the egg.
3. Remove the chicken from the marinade. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, dip it into the egg, then coat it again in the flour mixture.
4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the chicken until golden brown, crispy, and cooked through, about 4 to 5 minutes per side depending on thickness.
5. In a small bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey to make the bang bang sauce.
6. In another bowl, combine the cabbage, carrots, green onions, and cilantro to make the slaw.
7. Lightly toast the sandwich buns. Spread bang bang sauce on the bottom buns, add the crispy chicken, top with more sauce and slaw, then place the top buns on and serve right away.
Notes
Do not overcrowd the pan while frying, or the chicken will steam instead of turning crisp and golden.
