Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 to 4 tablespoons heavy cream
1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Beat 1 cup of softened unsalted butter in a large bowl for 2 to 3 minutes until light and creamy.
2. Gradually add 4 cups of powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition and scraping down the bowl as needed.
3. Mix in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 1/8 teaspoon of salt until fully incorporated.
4. Add 3 to 4 tablespoons of heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
5. If using food coloring, add it now and blend until smooth.
6. Spread or pipe onto completely cooled sugar cookies and decorate as desired.
Notes
Make sure the butter is fully softened before beating for a smooth texture.
Start with 3 tablespoons of cream and add more only if needed.
Use gel food coloring for the best vibrant results without thinning the frosting.
