Ingredients
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
1 large egg
Instructions
1. Warm 1 cup of milk to about 110°F, like warm bath water.
2. In a large bowl or stand mixer, mix warm milk, 1/4 cup sugar, and 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
3. Add 1/4 cup melted butter, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon salt. Gradually stir in 3 1/2 cups flour until a dough forms.
4. Knead the dough by hand for 10 minutes or use a mixer for 6–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
6. Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal balls. Place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
7. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes, until puffy.
8. Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden brown.
9. Brush rolls immediately with 2 tablespoons melted butter and a sprinkle of flaky salt if desired.
10. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Use whole milk for extra rich flavor and tenderness.
You can shape and chill the rolls overnight after the first rise.
Brush with honey butter for a sweet-savory twist.
